Nearly done

Another day another page finished. I’ve been ‘finishing’ off these last pages for a few weeks now. All the drawing is done, it was a lot of time spent laying out the pages, lettering (urgh!) and putting the coloured textured overlays down.

Mostly using Photoshop except for the word balloons. There are specific tools in Clip Paint Studio and I thought it would be quicker to give that a go. I did start the lettering with pen and ink, ruling the guidelines and the like but it was obvious that was going to take a very long time compared to the Clip Studio method. I don’t particularly like the result. I used Komika Text and it’s not the best comics font but it’s what I had to hand and has no strings attached with publication, right and permissions.

The reason for all the clock watching was the original deadline got moved forward by six weeks meaning I had to work efficiently to get this 12-page comic strip finished in and on time. I have been illustrating freelance long enough to expect the unexpected and it’s one of the reasons why I gave up doing it professionally and full time. You are always at the mercy of someone who wants you to work harder for them.
