Inky Onslaught

The highly anticipated horror movie Onslaught was watched. A mix of genetically enhanced super soldiers and Halloween. It's not perfect but that is the 'wabi-sabi' of it at work - all things are transient and flawed and that make it better.

The main character was easy enough to get a likeness of. I tried getting the detail of the super soldiers but they are basically black silhouettes with glowing eyes, so made up most of their military garb detail.

There is a cut scene on line where our hero visits a hardware store but I think this was more a proof of concept than actually intended to be included in the film. IMDB has a lot of photos which were also good for reference later on.

I was going to do the three evil soldiers but lost enthusiasm and the detail was getting too small so settled on just the one sinister figure.

Mean and moody and so is the film. Which was enjoyable. Heavy in debt to the work of 1980's John Carpenter. I like the electronic music and the grindhouse weirdness. Dan Stevens German scientist is also a contentious role and again, I liked it. Something a bit different from the straight forward slasher movies.

Generally, I don't like slasher films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Scream, (Widows Bay S1.E8 is probably the exception) which are considered classics of the horror film genre. Although I have seen them I have no urge to watch them again. The characters are stupid, by design and the indestructible, unexplained nature of the villains I find frustrating. The current trend of giving monsters sympathetic backstories in streaming service adaptations is also destroying the mystery.
